Free Family Fun at Home Depot this Saturday with Take-Aways

Home Depot is offering free kid's workshops designed for children ages 5-12. The Workshops are offered on the first Saturday of each month between 9am and noon at all Home Depot Stores.

The Home Depot's Kids Workshops offer useful projects and teach children do-it-yourself skills and tool safety, while at the same time helping to instill a sense of accomplishment. Additionally, this fun time allows for quality one-on-one time between adults and children.

In addition to the newly constructed project kit, each child receives a kid-sized orange apron, similar to The Home Depot associates' aprons, and an achievement pin.

Free Burrito from Chipotle

I know you do not need many ideas from me on what to do this Halloween, but if you do need some ideas, check out your local churches to see if they have any fall festivals planned. They will usually have fun games in addition to free candy!

If you want some inexpensive grub before loading up on candy, how does a free burrito sound? If you have a Chipotle Mexican Restaurant near you, head over there Oct 31 after 6PM for a free burrito. One catch - you have to dress up like a burrito. As always, I would call first to make sure yours is participating and what the guidelines are for the costume, which could be as simple as wrapping some foil around your arm.

Simple Evenings Can Be Wonderful

Kelly Ripa said on the Regis and Kelly show that they had a simple weekend last weekend-- Mark made a fire, Kelly made a pumpkin pie, and they sat down by the fire with the kids and spent quality time talking together. Sounds wonderful to me!

Or, visit your local Borders or Waldenbooks store from 2-4 PM for costume contest, storytime, activities, and a free cookie with any beverage purchase at the Seattles Best Cafe. Find out more information here.

Everyone is a chef tonight!

Friday night is a great night for make your own pizzas. If you can take your kids to the grocery store with you, make an activity of walking them through the vegetable aisle and letting them pick out their own toppings (amazing how they actually want to eat them when they pick them out themselves). If you buy frozen bread dough it is a lot cheaper (I like Bridgeford Ready Dough--pizza directions are on the package) but you may need to allow time to let it sit out on the counter for a few hours to make the dough rise. Cut up the veggies and then have each person shape their own dough and “decorate” it with tomato sauce, the veggies and lots of shredded cheese. For dessert, make a huge pizza cookie that looks like a pepperoni pizza --your kids will get a kick out of this one. (thanks Robin Miller and Food Network!)

My first post!

I am so excited to start my first blog. I am always trying to come up with something fun for our family to do without spending a lot of money. Now I am going to share my ideas with everyone. So the next time you and your family are sitting around saying, "What do you want to do today?" "I don't know, what do you want to do?" You can visit Family Time on a Dime for an idea that is not only fun, but affordable!
